When the winds whip off the frozen waters of Lake Michigan, the temperatures in Chicagoland can plummet to well below zero with brutal wind chills making it feel even colder. Two suburban Chicago communities don’t let frigid temperatures get in the way of year-round biodiesel use.
The Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois’ entire diesel fleet of 122 vehicles has run on B20 year-round since 2007, including their snow removal equipment and emergency vehicles. According to Ray Salisbury, fleet services foreman, “We have had no issues caused by biodiesel. We ask our supplier to use an additive and other than that, just perform regular maintenance and filter changes.” Continue reading HERE.
